BUILDING YOUR CAREER WITH COFACE SOUTH AFRICA
A career with Coface South Africa opens up a world of opportunities and rewards for you and provides us with the skills and experience we need to run our business. We greatly value our staff. The more diverse we are, the more skills and knowledge we will have; the happier and friendlier we are, the more productive we will be. And this means we will be better able to meet our clients' and partners' needs.
Aside from the vibrant culture within the company, and the excellent work-life balance which every employee enjoys (contributed to in part by our options for working flexible hours), we also offer competitive benefits to every employee. In addition to our pension and medical aid benefits we offer a full guaranteed thirteenth cheque (pro-rata for employees who haven’t yet completed a full years’ service), as well as eligibility for all employees to participate in our incentive scheme. The incentive scheme participation is not guaranteed as it is based on both the performance of the company and the individual, but is an opportunity for employees to earn a bonus in addition to the thirteenth cheque each year. The annual leave entitlement starts at 18 days per year and increases with service within the company.
Opportunities
The career choices at Coface South Africa are many and varied. They range from credit risk underwriting through overdue account collection to credit information analysis - along with sales, finance, human resources and marketing.
Coface South Africa is a short term insurance company, and as we only insure business to business trade credit transactions, we look for candidates who have commercial experience (as opposed to experience limited to personal insurance), particularly for our sales consultants, claims assessors and underwriters.
In particular areas we are always on the lookout for new talent:
• For our sales team, we look for dynamic individuals with commercial selling experience (i.e. selling to companies, not individuals), and all candidates considered need to have a minimum of 120 FAIS credits. Our sales consultants are largely responsible for generating their own leads, so successful candidates would need to put some thought into a strategy for establishing themselves into the credit insurance market. We offer generous basic plus commission packages to our sales consultants and executives.
• For our underwriting team we look for graduates (who for example have studied in risk, economics, credit, finance or accounting). Further to this we look for individuals who have experience in commercial risk management and have some experience assessing companies’ credit worthiness. Experience interpreting financial statements is definitely an advantage. Candidates who are currently underwriters in the short-term insurance industry do not necessarily have the right experience for our underwriting team, particularly if their experience is limited to personal lines, as at Coface South Africa we only underwrite commercial entities.
• For our information team, we look for individuals who display excellent written communication, and who can formulate structured opinions on companies’ credit worthiness based on information at hand (often including financial statements of the company) as well as their general knowledge of particular industries and the economy as a whole. As for our underwriting team we look for graduates who are interested in the business world around them.
With the job comes flexibility and if you find you are suited to a different area within the company there are opportunities to transfer (the best way of successfully effecting this is through proving your worth in your current position whilst highlighting your desire to move in your career discussion with your manager). After a qualifying period you could become internationally mobile - gaining global experience from working in one or more of our 94 offices around the world.
Staff development
We are committed to the development of our staff within the company and the Coface Group. Ranging from inter-departmental training to improving your skill set, your training and development begins the day you join us. Aside from our internal training initiatives, Coface South Africa boasts a structured bursary and study loan scheme to which employees have an opportunity to submit applications twice a year. Coupled with the ample study and exam leave provided to qualifying individuals, the bursary and study loan programme ensures that opportunities for employees to further their studies are plentiful.
Coface is an Equal Opportunities Employer, building a workforce that values the diversity of our community.
